n 2003, the Kennel Club recognized the breed. While the breed could not yet be shown, Azawakhs could be registered with the KC and the breed was added to the imported breed register.
In 2004 eight Azawakh entered NFC, and made their appearance just before the Best In Show competition at the Hound Association show. We were very grateful to the Committee for giving us the opportunity to show our dogs.

Sunday February 22nd, 2004 a teaching seminar was held in Llandrinio.
For the next decade, the club and the breed grew slowly under secretaries Susannah Kemp, Erika Tonder and Mary Snowdon until activity eventually ceased. It was revamped in 2014 under secretary Steph Marston-Pollock, with an application for club recognition being sent to the Kennel Club along with an interim breed standard.
In January 2015, the Azawakh Association of the UK gained official recognition from the Kennel Club, while in June the interim breed standard was approved. Now, Azawakhs could finally be shown in the UK, although only in Import Register classes. The first Azawakh to be shown won the Hound, Terrier and Gundog Imported Register class at Belfast Championship Show in September 2015, with a second Azawakh taking reserve best bitch.
Following a drop in activity, the club was passed on to new ownership in mid 2019. It is currently being run by interim officers and committee until the next AGM. The aim of the current team is to ramp up the club's activities, communication and promotion of the Azawakh, with the longterm goal of achieving breed classes at KC shows.
